PHILANTHROPY

Ronald McDonald Benefit

In 1979 Alpha Delta Pi adopted Ronald McDonald Houses as their International philanthropy. In December of the same year, ten members of Southern California Area Council of Alpha Delta Pi met with members of Southern California Children’s Cancer Services to learn how local Alpha Delta Pi’s could help. It was at that meeting that the members of Southern California Area Council bravely pledged $10,000 toward the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House, then under construction.

The Los Angeles Alumnae Association sponsored the first benefit luncheon shortly after the house opened. Other Alumnae Associations joined in until eventually the Southern California Area Council of Alpha Delta Pi took over. The annual luncheon has been hosted at the Ronald McDonald House, the Music Center, the Wilshire Country Club, the Riviera Country Club and last year, in our craft and vendor boutique format, at the Alpha Delta Pi Chapter House at UCLA.

After satisfying the original $10,000 pledge, Southern California Area Council pledged an additional $25,000 for a room designed for bone marrow transplants and other long-term patients. Currently, we divide our luncheon proceeds between the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House and Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, established in 1982. Over the years, Alpha Delta Pi has contributed over $200,000 to these wonderful organizations.

We now embrace alumnae and friends from all of California and have celebrated over 20 successful years. We thank you for joining us in our worthy cause.
